Why we do what we do

Unpaid family carers in India are doing essential work with very little support. We're determined to change that.

An estimated 14 crore people across India (nearly 10% of our population) provide unpaid care to their loved ones who are disabled, living with long-term illness, mental health conditions or age-related needs. Their care sustains their families and communities, yet carers themselves remain largely invisible and unsupported.

Without recognition or support, many carers experience stress, poor mental health, social isolation and financial insecurity. When carers are pushed to the margins, the people they care for are also put at risk and the wider health and social care system is adversely affected too.

At Carers Worldwide India, we believe unpaid family carers must be recognised as essential to society. Our work is rooted in partnership with carers and their communities to create practical, culturally-grounded support that strengthens their well-being, builds resilience, and amplifies their voices.

A community-driven approach to carer support

Carers Worldwide India, registered in 2018, is leading the way to better support for unpaid family carers in India.

We work with local charity partners across India using a holistic, community-driven approach. Our unique Carers Worldwide Model provides comprehensive support for unpaid carers' health, livelihood, emotional well-being and social inclusion.
